| Best Practices: Asian and Pacific
Decade of Disabled Persons, 1993-2002
The Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons,
1993-2002 was a significant programme. Governments
and NGO agencies in the ESCAP region undertook many
examples and initiatives of good practices. These
examples provide detailed descriptions of the challenges
faced, the solutions found and lessons learned in
the implementation of the Agenda for Action for the
Decade. In addition, they provide the basis for further
inspiration and replication. The focus of the Decade
was the improvement of the quality of the lives of
individual men and women, girls and boys with disabilities
in the ESCAP region. Some of their selected stories
are presented below. These selected stories are part
of the publication Pathfinders: Towards Full Participation
