Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons 1993-2002


Decade Activities

The focus of ESCAP's Decade action is the inclusion of disabled persons in the mainstream development process.

Some ESCAP activities include:

  • Promotion of Non-handicapping Environments
  • Education for Children and Youth with Disabilities into the Twenty-first Century
  • Survey of National Coordination Committees on Disability in Asian and the Pacific
  • Report of the Regional Forum (November 1999) on;
    • "Meeting the Targets for the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, and Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities"
    • "Education for Children and Youth with Disabilities"
    • "Early Intervention and Education for Children and Youth with Disabilities"
  • Report of Asia-Pacific Conference on Tourism for People with Disability, Bali, Indonesia, 24-28 September 2000
  • Symposium : People with Intellectual Disability
  • Poverty & Disability : Field Study-cum-Regional Seminar on Poverty Alleviation among Rural Persons with Disabilities
