The High-level Meeting on International Migration and Development took place in Bangkok from 22 to 23 September 2008 to facilitate discussion on the multidimensional aspects of international migration and its linkages with inclusive development.
It was organized jointly by the Royal Thai Government, International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The meeting was attended by high-level representatives from 22 countries which dealt with issues of international migration.
During the roundtable discussions of the meeting, participants focused in particular on issues such as social dimensions of international migration; remittances for development; international migration in least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States; as well as data and research on international migration and development.
