STRENGTHENING DEVELOPMENT POLICIES FOR SOCIAL INCLUSION,
GENDER EQUALITY AND HEALTH PROMOTION
 
PROJECT GOALS
•To strengthen the MDGs process by providing additional targets and indicators and better track regional progress made on achieving all MDGs.

•To enhance awareness and knowledge among policy-makers to address social exclusion, gender equality, health issues and disparities.

•To increase development policies and programmes that address key issues concerning social inclusion, gender equality and health promotion

By the end of the project

•Region-specific targets and indicators pertaining to health, gender equality, population and development, and socially vulnerable groups are identified or developed and aligned with the MDGs process

•A network of MDGs knowledge hubs is created that undertakes policy-oriented research and analysis on region-specific MDGs-related targets and indicators and serves as a centre for creating national capacity for accurate data collection and analysis to faciliate formulation of effective MDGs policies

Within 2 years after the project ends

New targets and indicators are discussed in at least one intergovernmental meeting in all the regions

Within 5 years after the project ends

At least one country in each region adopts new targets and indicators in national MDGs policy planning process
 
MAJOR PROJECT ACTIVITIES
1. Development of addtional region-specific targets and indicators

•Final report with the project findings and addtional MDGs targets and indicators for inclusion into MDGs processes

2. Knowledge management

•Design and launch of websites to disseminate additional MDGs targets and indicators

•Collating and making available on-line research and literature on linkages between MDGs and key issues

•Transformation of communities of practice into knowledge communities for continuous input to programmes

•Annual review of progress made on additional targets and indicators
 
TIME FRAME
The period of implementation is planned for 2006-2008.
