Background to the film: The role and responsibilities of men in promoting gender equality and eliminating violence against women has been highlighted in several United Nations documents and declarations, including the Beijing Declaration, where the impostance of working in partnership with men to aim at achieving gender equality has been emphasized. After the publication of "Elimination of Violence against Women in Partnership with Men" (2003) and the organization of a capacity-building training workshop for South Asian members on this topic in late 2003, a side event called YOUNG MEN SPEAK OUT was organized at the High-level Intergovernmental Meeting to Review Regional Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, and its Regional and Global Outcomes" in September 2004 in Bangkok.
