| The Thematic Working
Group on Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality (TWG-WEGE)
is an interagency working group on gender which includes
membership of UN agencies, local regional NGOs, and civil
society organizations. The group meets quarterly, and serves
to enable participating United Nations and other related
agencies and organizations to promote the empowerment of
women and gender equality through:
- Exchanging information on ongoing
and planned activities with an aim to minimize duplication,
- Coordinating and complementing
activities,
- Formulating and implementing collaborative
activities related to women’s empowerment and promoting
gender equality,
- Assisting United Nations agencies
and other member organizations in implementing gender
mainstreaming; and,
- Mainstreaming gender into the
work of other Thematic Working Groups
