The
Beijing +10 global review will be carried out by the Commission
on the Status of Women (CSW) at its forty-ninth session
in March 2005. The objective of this process is to review
the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA),
signed by 189 governments at the United Nations Fourth World
Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in 1995, and
the outcome of the Beijing+ 5 Special Session of the United
Nations General Assembly in 2000. The review and appraisal
by the CSW will identify achievements, gaps and challenges
and provide an indication of areas where actions and initiatives,
within the framework of the BPfA and the outcome of the
special session (Beijing +5), are most urgent to further
implementation. In preparation, UNESCAP is coordinating
the review of Asia-Pacific regional responses to the DAW
Questionnaire to Governments on the BPfA and Beijing+5,
and will host a High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on
Beijing+10 in 7-10 September 2004.
