This publication reviews emerging policies and initiatives in selected countries of the region for land use and mineral resource development as well as the trends and perspective of mining taxation in the Asian-Pacific region within the global context.

Most of the papers contained in this volume were presented at ESCAP Workshop on Mining Taxation and Expert Group meeting on Sustainable Resource Development held in 1997.
