Mainstreaming gender into rural energy development
In the fourth session, the role of gender in rural energy policy and programme formulation and implementation was eleborated on in presentations and group discussions. The groups exchanged information on and discussed approaches to mainstreaming gender issues into rural energy development policies and programmes, and into the procedures for their formulation and implementation. The discussions addressed the following questions:
- What do we understand by gender mainstreaming into rural energy development, and what are the key related issues at the programme, policy and institutional levels?
- What are the key barriers to mainstreaming gender into rural energy development at each of the three levels?
- What kind of mechanisms can support gender mainstreaming of polices and programmes in relation to the integration of energy and rural development?
