Production and consumption of fossil fuels constitutes the main source of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). Efforts to enhance efficiency of resource use and reduction of emissions thus need to focus on the energy sector. Public as well as private sector entities will have to play equally important roles in implementing the provisions of the UNFCCC Kyoto Protocol, with which the prospective participating developing countries are not as yet sufficiently acquainted.
Under the project entitled "Promoting Sustainable Energy Development Partnerships for Implementation of Kyoto Protocol in the Asia-Pacific Region" two regional group training events were conducted during the first half of 2004.
