Eco-efficient Water Infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific
19-21 August 2009, Inchon City, RoK

 

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Background

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT), in close collaboration with Ministry of Environment (MOE) of ROK, the Colombo Plan Secretariat (CPS) and the Korea Water & Wastewater Works Association (KWWA), organized the “First Regional Workshop on Eco-efficient Water Infrastructure Development in Asia” in Seoul, Korea, from 10 to 12 November 2008 with financial support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The first workshop provided participants from developing countries with opportunities to improve the awareness and benefits of eco-efficient approaches for water infrastructure development, to identify persisting and emerging water challenges, to discuss and review potential strategies and possible pilot demonstration projects for eco efficient water infrastructure in selected developing countries, and to strengthen regional partnerships among participants and countries for eco-efficient water infrastructure development through sharing the knowledge, experiences and networking.

As a continuous activity of the 1st Regional Workshop mentioned above, UNESCAP, KICT, Incheon City of ROK and KOICA jointly will organize the 2nd Regional Workshop on “Development of Eco-efficient Water Infrastructure in Asia and the Pacific” in Incheon City, Korea for 19-21 August 2009.

Objectives

The workshop is aimed:

To share experiences and good practices on eco efficient water infrastructure including developed strategy or guidelines on eco efficient water infrastructure in countries
To identify/discuss good strategies and methodologies to institutionalize the eco efficiency concepts, agendas and good practices into national and local planning process and legal framework for practical actions
To strengthen the regional partnerships and networking through sharing of knowledge and experiences on eco efficient water infrastructure including the promotion of South-South cooperation

 

Target Participants

  • Policy makers and decision makers (Director General and Director level) of Ministry of Planning or Ministry for Water Resources
  • Senior officers at national agencies related to water infrastructure and water resource management
  • International and national experts who are engaged in water infrastructure and water resource management

add Parallel Activity

 The workshop will be organized in parallel with the World City Water Forum 2009 in Incheon, Korea, which is expected to provide additional opportunities to link the project with related global initiatives of World City Water Forum 2009

add Venue and Date

This workshop will be held in Incheon City, Republic of Korea from 19 to 21 August 2009. The detail information note for participants will be forwarded to selected participants accordingly

add Documentation

 The background documents to be discussed at the workshop will be prepared by organizers and available to the participants at the workshop. Apart from documents prepared by organizers, the participants are kindly requested to prepare the country presentation documents on “Development of strategies or/and guidelines on eco efficient water infrastructure development”. The proposed guide for preparation of presentation will be forwarded to selected invitees accordingly.
