To meet the increasing energy demands of the region in a sustainable manner, the promotion of renewable energy technologies is crucial. Barriers in the form of lack of knowledge about technological and investment options, lack of awareness about long-term benefits, and lack of incentives for technology transfer and utilization of renewable energy solutions in current policies persist. ESCAP seeks to raise the awareness and knowledge on options for enhanced utilization of renewable energy technologies through gathering stakeholders at events for increased networking and by making information available electronically. The Regional Seminar on the Commercialization of Biomass Technology was arranged in Guangzhou, China, from 4 to 8 June 2001, and was kindly supported by the Chinese Government.
