Advisory services provided to Pacific Island States During an advisory cum fact-finding mission in September-October 2001, the Cook Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Kiribati and Fiji were visited to make preliminary assessments of their needs and priorities regarding assistance for sustainable energy development, and to advise them on specific matters according to requests received from the governments concerned. The requests covered energy policy, rural electrification, introduction of renewable energy technologies, hybrid energy systems and energy statistics, respectively.

Subsequently, advisory services have been provided to Vanuatu on geothermal energy development, to Fiji on rural electrification policy review, to the Cook Islands on wind energy development, and to the Maldives on the establishment of an energy agency |
