Examples of potential environmental regulation on international trade
Pacific island countries: impacts of environment concern on exports
Some Pacific island products, such as timber (Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands
and Vanuatu) and squash (Tonga) are facing a decline in exports owing to
environment-related restrictions. Australia and New Zealand have already banned
hardwoods from Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands because of their perceived
exploitation of landowners, poor logging practices and the unsustainable nature of the
industry.
