Recognition of public interest and participation under the Philippine Environment Code

Upgrading water quality based on public interest requirement
- Section 16 of the Philippine Environment Code addresses that where the public interest so requires, the National Pollution Control Commission, in coordination with appropriate government agencies, shall reclassify a body of water based on the intended beneficial use and take such steps as may be necessary to upgrade the quality of said water.

Responsibilities for individuals to participate in the environmental management
- Section 58 of the Philippine Environment Code imposes responsibility on local government units as well as private individuals to actively participate in the environmental management and protection programs of the government.
