Implementation of international agreements under the Vietnamese Law on Environmental Protection

- Implementation of international treaties and conventions relating to the environment: The Government of Vietnam shall implement all international treaties and conventions relating to the environment which it has signed or participated in, honor all international treaties and conventions on environmental protection on the basis of mutual respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and interests by virtue of Article 45 of the Vietnamese Law on Environmental Protection.

1. Strengthening institutional capacity: There are action plans and programs which, if implemented, would address the Vietnam's obligations under some of the international conventions as well as the protection of biodiversity. For example, the 1995 Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) is a very comprehensive document which maps out broad strategies for strengthening institutional capacity in the management of protected area, wetlands, and biological diversity in general. These strategies are consistent with the obligations of Vietnam under the 1992 UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
