Mechanisms for Stakeholders' Participation in PICs

      In the PIC there is little or no formal mechanisms for interaction with and participation by the private sector in environmental planning and management. There is no NGO representation on major governmental decision making institutions. In Tonga the private sector, selected members of the public, NGOs and churches are sometimes invited as observers at some meetings/seminars, but this is done rarely and on and ad hoc basis. In Fiji, the draft Sustainable Development Bill was distributed to a large number of people for comment. It was reported that there was significant feedback, which had some impact on the final shape of the Bill.
