Thailand: Convention on Biological Diversity
Thailand signed the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 12 June 1992 at the Rio Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). Although the Prime Minister endorsed the Convention and submitted it to Parliament for approval, the Parliament has not yet ratified the CBD. Observers remark that many Thai NGOs and civil society groups have lobbied Parliament against it, citing that the instrument encroaches on Thai sovereignty. Although Thailand is not a Party, the OEPP has produced National Reports and drafted a National Biodiversity Strategy.
