Mekong River Commission (MRC)
The Mekong River Commission (MRC) is an intergovernmental organization comprising Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The MRC aims to "promote and coordinate sustainable management and development of water and related resources for the countries' mutual benefit and for the people's well-being by implementing strategic programmes and activities and providing scientific information and policy advice." - MRC Secretariat. In 1991, an Environment Unit was created to manage environmental issues in the sub-region.
