II. MECHANISMS FOR INTEGRATING ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS INTO SECTOR POLICIES AND FOR MONITORING ENFORCEMENT

[ A | B | C | D ]

A. Introduction

Good legislation is a necessary condition for achieving environmental objectives. However, the legislation by itself will not be sufficient to ensure that the objectives are achieved unless it is backed up by appropriate institutional support. This chapter describes the experience to date in Papua New Guinea of integrating environmental concerns into sector policies and mechanisms for coordination among the government agencies and for monitoring enforcement.
