Industry is organized under various councils and associations, representing different industry sectors. Through the industry bodies, interaction and consultation between the government and the private sector are facilitated. The industry is also represented on the boards of statutory bodies and MARDEC and as such is able to ensure that policies and programmes of the statutory bodies are in tune with the needs of industry, and that together they play their part in strengthening market promotion, quality control, research and development, and downstream resource-based industrialization.

The councils are the Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council (MPOPC).
