G. Provincial Annual Development Programmes (1990/91 to 1996/97
The government of NWFP, like other provincial governments in Pakistan, prepares an ADP. Money is allocated to different sectors, depending on political and government priorities. During 1990/91, the total ADP allocation for 13 major sectors was over PRs 2.489 billion. By 1996/97 the total ADP allocation had increased to PRs 6.126 billion, or an increase of 146.1 per cent. From 1991/92 to 1996/97, the number of major sectors was also increased from 13 to 21, with the addition of the tourism, environment, public health, engineering, urban development, population planning, regional development and women in development. However, the allocation to those new sectors was not significant except in the case of the public health and engineering sectors. Only 1.82 per cent of the total ADP allocation in 1996/97 was made to the environment, tourism and women in development sectors.
