6. Land use
In NWFP, the bulk of the land area is unavailable for cultivation as it consists of bare mountains, water bodies including rivers and streams, human settlements and other infrastructure. One-fifth of the geographic area of the province is under cultivation and more then one tenth is wasteland which could be brought under cultivation with improvements in agricultural inputs and some viable land tenure system. The area under forest cover is 15.42 per cent of the reported area of the province.
