4. Social infrastructure

p> Although the health facilities in NWFP compare favourably with the provincial population (13 per cent of the population with 21.8 per cent of the national hospitals, 11.7 per cent of dispensaries and 12.4 per cent of the medical health centres), the availability of professionals managing those facilities is small. For example, 3.4 per cent of the country's doctors are in NWFP against 13.1 per cent of the total population. The situation with nurses and health volunteers is no better since only 3.6 per cent of the nurses in the country are in NWFP. A comparative figures for educational institutional institutions, together with other indicators, are given in the socio-economic profile of the province in annex table 2.
