2. Regional plans

In the regional development context, the objective is to achieve balanced development between all regions of the country. That objective is in line with the Malaysia New Economic Policy of providing a balanced distribution of health, education, public facilities, and recreational, housing and social benefits for all. City Hall of Kuala Lumpur, in its role as a local government authority, has a number of objectives that are in line with the policy; those objectives are to:

  • Improve the quality of administration;
  • Provide comprehensive amenities and improve the quality of service;
  • Improve planning in all sectors in order to achieve systematic and orderly the introduction of physical structures;
  • Provide and improve infrastructural amenities for the benefit of the population and the nation (e.g., traffic control, and drainage and sewerage systems);
  • Maintain and improve the quality of the environment by ensuring a balance between development, ecology and the natural heritage of the country;
  • Enhance and improve the image of Malaysia as a cultural, religious, tourism and sports centre.
