Spatial structure of the metropolisThe metropolis region of Shenyang comprises nine districts under the jurisdiction of Shenyang, of which five districts are urban districts (Heping, Shenhe, Dadong, Huanggu and Tiexi) and four districts are suburban districts. The population and land-use structure of the metropolis region are listed in table 1. Table 1. Population and land-use structure of the Shenyang metropolis region
Source: Shenyang Yearbook 1996 In addition to the central urban district, in the central urban region of Shenyang there are three large satellite towns (Xinchengzi, Hushitai and Sujiatun) and 18 other designated towns. The three satellite towns are along the Changchun-Dalian Railway which is the distribution route to the north and south of the central urban district. The 18 designated towns are evenly distributed in the metropolis region. The metropolitan structural framework and its external connections consist of the radiating railway and highway networks as described above. The highway networks form the "One Ring and Four Rays" network. The transportation networks make the Shenyang metropolis region one of the most developed regions with regard to intra-comprehensive transportation networks and thus enhances local economic development. The range of the Shenyang metropolis region may expand further in the future. Top |
