2. Demographic size of the city
In 1995 the registered population of Shenyang was 6.668 million and the floating population was about 900,000. Estimated on the basis of point-investigating data of 1 per cent of the Shenyang population in 1995, the number of people living in the cities and towns was 5,419,000 (including the district population of cities with districts, the residential district population of cities without districts and the resident committee population of towns under the jurisdiction of the city or county ).
The urbanization index of the population was 81.2 per cent.
In 1995, the population living in districts under the jurisdiction of Shenyang City was 4,728,000, of whom the agrarian population was 929,000 (19.7 per cent).
The population in the central urban area of Shenyang was 3,344,000.
