3. The afforestation database of Shanghai
The data gained through remote sensing investigation fundamentally reflects the current situation and changing process of green space. Only by using the computer is it possible to memorize, organize, search, calculate, analyze and renew such data. The afforestation database of Shanghai is a spatial database based on GIS. It uses not only digits but also vivid graphics to reflect the distribution of green space and the spatial changing pattern of green space in Shanghai, then analyze the causes and varying nature of this changing to provide decision-making support for the land administration department to control the continual loss of green land in this district. -
The database not only has the output ability to divide data areas automatically, add statistically, calculate quotients and differences, analyze histograms and three dimensional view etc., but it also can provide such data and figures as the land area of streets, green coverage and the classified area of pavement trees, gardens, public green land, and special green land etc., and can calculate the frequency of green coverage classically, reflecting a comprehensive picture of the regional green space situation. The model was based on the years of green space data recorded in the database, which made it possible to demonstrate the changing pattern of green space and predict the future trends.
