B. The network of environmental monitoring

Leading 20 environmental monitoring stations, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center undertakes the main part of environmental monitoring in Shanghai municipality, and also provides technical training and assessment to various environmental monitoring station belonging to the municipal departments of industry, agriculture, water conservancy and hundreds of enterprises.
The work includes monitoring surface water, ambient air and noise in addition to soil, produce, and radioactivity. Irregularly scheduled monitoring in satisfying special needs is also frequently carried out for urban key construction projects or urban development policy-making.
