2. Scales of flood control projects

Based on project coverage, the FCDI projects are delineated into two groups; (a) Large-scale projects and (b) Small-scale projects. The large-scale projects provide a benefited area coverage of over 2500 ha and the small-scale projects are those which have benefited area coverage of less than 2500 ha (Table 7). These are usually local level projects and are implemented at the Union or Thana level. Union and Thana are the lowest and second-lowest tiers of the Local Government in Bangladesh. Large and medium scale projects are planned and implemented by the BWDB with small scale and very small scale projects by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and Union Parishads respectively.
