Economic & Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific, 2002
Contents:
The first chapter of the Survey covers the global
and regional economic developments and their implications and prospects
for the UN ESCAP region. Meanwhile, the second chapter emphasizes macroeconomic
performance, issues and policies of developing and developed countries of
the region. The third chapter examines the feasibility of achieving the
Millennium Development Goals aiming at reducing extreme poverty, hunger,
achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, reducing
infant mortality, and improving maternal health. Finally the last chapter
discusses regional development cooperation in Asia and the Pacific.

Governance Re-invented: The Progress, Constraints, and Remaining
Agenda in Bank and Corporate Restructuring in East and South-East Asia
Contents:
The publication
brings together four country studies (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic
of Korea, and Thailand) and a regional overview paper prepared by ESCAP,
all of which were presented at a subregional seminar held in Seoul duirng
May 2001. Good governance in the financial and corporate sector, approaches
to restructuring, post crisis restructuring, constraints and remaining
agenda on financial and corporate restructuring was the primary focus
of the seminar. Apart from the country studies, a report of the seminar
proceedings is also included.

Development Planning in a Market Economy (LDC series no.

Contents:
This publication addresses issues relating to the
role of the Government and the associated need for planning. Part one
deals with the role of human capital in economic development and a discussion
on the planning process in Cambodia. Part two illustrates the experiences
of Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Thailand in selected
aspects of planning.
