Conflict Resolution

  Cross-Cultural Communication Programme

    Target audience: Staff at large

    Objectives:
    Increase awareness of how cultural styles may affect communication and begin to reflect on ways of reconciling and using differences to enhance communication and teamwork.

    Participants will be able to communicate more effectively with others who have different styles by:

     

    • Understanding how our expectations affect our perceptions and behaviours
    • Enlarging our understanding of the impact of culturally-based assumptions and norms in the workplace
    • Exploring ways to adapt our communica­tion style to be better understood by others who have different views of the world
    • Identifying useful models and guides to increase opportunities for finding common ground.
Topics to be covered:

• Cultural values and norms that affect openness to hearing, speaking and being influenced.
• Including individualism/collectivism, self/group orientations, power distance, rules and relationships, etc.
