Joint International Conference: APHEN (Asia-Pacific Health Economics Network) Forum 2000 and 5th Annual Conference of the Bangladesh Health Economics Unit (HEU).

An international conference on

"Health sector reform: equity, efficiency, sustainability?"

to be held 4 - 6th July 2000 in Dhaka (venue to be announced), Bangladesh.

The conference will bring together specialists working inside and outside the Asian-Pacific region. The aim is to provide a forum in which to discuss evidence and non-evidence based approaches to health reform. The central focus will be on the process of health sector reform in low, middle and transitional economies. The conference will incorporate discussion of the health economics implications of sector wide approaches to health sector reform.

The conference will include a blend of invited plenary presentations on key themes in health sector reform and submitted papers. Papers are invited on topics in the following areas:

  • health reform and equity
  • sources of health care finance
  • improving provider efficiency
  • GIS for health sector monitoring.
  • national health accounts and equity analysis
  • adapting human resource capacity to health sector reform
  • public-private partnerships
  • health promotion and determinants of health
  • Health sector reform in the context of an
    ageing population
  • sector wide approaches to health reform
  • decentralisation and health reform

Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words, must be written in English and include the following information:

- name of contributor(s),

- affiliation(s),

- address including fax/phone and email of corresponding author,

- conference theme that the abstract addresses,

- description of presentation.

Abstracts must be submitted by 15 April 2000.

Asia-Pacific Health Economics Network (APHEN) will hold a health economics essay competition, known as the ‘Nick Prescott Award’ in memory and appreciation of Dr Nicholas Prescott’s devoted contribution to and enthusiasm for APHEN initiatives.

The award will include expenses to attend the conference.

Conditions:

- Essay theme: Health sector reform: equity, efficiency, sustainability?

- Word Limit: English language, not more than 3000 words not including references.

- Eligibility: Entrants must be citizen/nationals of and currently residing in a country in the Asia-Pacific Region: South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands including Australiaand New Zealand
-The Essay must be an original work and never have been published nor submitted for publication
- Deadline for submission: 15 May 2000

Submission procedure:
1) Apply to the competition by completing the application form below and sending it by fax by 15 April 2000
2) Send Abstract (not more than 100 words) and full essay by e-mail (file should be in MS Word for Windows) and also by postal mail
3) The essay should be typed with double spacing
