Central Asia (Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan), South-East Asia (Lao People’s
Democratic Republic), North-East Asia (Mongolia), South Asia (Nepal),
where the ESCAP methodology was applied; |

Discussed case studies at four subregional
seminars attended by landlocked countries and transit developing
countries; |

Organized four subregional seminars which were
hosted by landlocked countries; |

Developed and refined a framework of recommendations
and an action plan with member countries through deliberations at
the seminars as a regional Action Plan for the International Ministerial
Conference; |

Produced publication on Transit Transport Issues
in Landlocked and Transit Developing Countries; |

ESCAP commission during the first phase of
the fifty-ninth session held on 24 and 25 April 2003 after extensive
and constructive discussion supported the framework of recommendations
and action plan as a practical framework for strengthening transit
transport systems and endorsed the regional platform for submission
to the International Ministerial Conference; |

The Commission during the second phase of its
fifty-ninth session from 1 to 4 September 2003 recognized that further
action on the subject should be in accordance with the Almaty Programme
of Action. |
