New way to measure transport efficiency as proposed at the Almaty meeting on landlocked and transit developing countries

The new time/cost-distance methodology, a simple and practical way of analysing the efficiency of transport routes developed by UNESCAP, is now available online.

To use the model, all you have to do is input the data relevant to a particular route into the ready-made spreadsheet, and a graph will be produced automatically to illustrate the time and costs involved in the transportation process.

The High-level Meeting on the Role of International, Regional and Subregional Organizations for the Implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action held in March 2005 in Almaty recognized the UNESCAP time/cost-distance methodology as a useful tool to measure progress made in establishing efficient transit transport systems and to monitor the implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action.
