During the early stages of industrialization, environmental problems in Malaysia stemmed predominantly from the relative lack of development and inadequate infrastructure. Rapid economic development through urbanization, industrialization and other land-use activities later gave rise to water, air and land pollution, which remain as serious environmental problems in Malaysia.
