G. Public participation
To assess the perceived needs of the people greater public participation should be encouraged at all levels of planning and implementation of developments projects, in order to achieve sustainable community development on an integrated basis. The formulation of CBOs and VOs should be encouraged at the village level, as was done with ERP in Malakand Division, as they can play an essential role in achieving sustainability. Furthermore, consultations with, and the participation of, local institutions and the population often result in more innovative and effective efforts to protect the environment.
