This chapter discusses the environment, natural resources and trends in development in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. A brief explanation is provided about the federal territory, followed by six sections. Section A describes the size, location and demographic characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, while section B lists the type of economic activities and their development in the city and its surrounding area. Section C describes the size of industries and activities and their development, while section D touches on the policy for development as well as future perspectives. Section E presents some ideas concerning the implications of current and future developments in the city for the economy of the area, such as on economic and physical growth and employment generation. Section F discusses the institutional arrangements for decision-making and development planning within central and local level government and private organizations.
