B. Environmental problems of the middle city group

[ B | B-1 | B-2 | B-3 | B-4 | B-5 | B-6 | B-7]

The main features of the middle city group are: the most densely populated cities, the highest concentrated population distribution, the greatest resource-development strength and the greatest aggregate of heavy and chemical industries in the province. Those features not only indicate the tremendous aggregate benefit of scale, they also are the cause of serious regional problems such as high environmental pollution and water shortages.

Heavy industry has the major role in the industrial structure of Liaozhong city group. The three pillar industries are raw materials, energy production and manufacturing. The industrial structure is the resource-development type, which is the source of the highest discharges of waste and the most serious pollution within the middle city group.
