IV. ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING FOR THE LIAONING MIDDLE CITY GROUP, WITH SHENYANG AS THE CORE

[ IV | IV-A | IV-B | IV-C | IV-D]

A. Middle city group

[ A | A-1 | A-2]

The middle region of Liaoning province contains three large cities (Shenyang, Fushun and Anshan), two medium cities (Liaoyang and Benxi) and a few small cities (e.g., Tiering, Xinmin, Tiefa and Haicheng). Of the total population of Liaoning province, 36.6 per cent (including over 50 per cent of the non-agrarian population of Liaoning) occupy 21 per cent of the provincial land area. More than half of the total Liaoning province GDP is produced in the middle region. Because the heavy and chemical industries of the middle city region are important to the whole country, a highly-developed communications network exists in the area. For example, the rail and road density is the highest in China.
