1. Gas and water supply, and drainage facilities
The construction of water sources projects has alleviated the shortage of clean drinking water.
First, during the eighth Five-Year Plan, new water sources projects (e.g., diversion works from the Dahuofang reservoir) were completed, so that the
daily water supply capacity increased by 45 thousand tons; the daily capacity of the municipal water supply system reached 1885 thousand tons.
Second, the addition to the water supply pipe system was 185 km, so that the total length of the pipe system increased from 2,329 km to 2,514 km. Third, the reuse rate of industrial water rose to above 74 percent, while the reuse rate for indirect cooling water rose to 95 per cent.
The annual average of saved water has risen to over 40,000 thousand tons. So the water shortage has been relieved to some degree in Shenyang.
In recent years, the construction of drainage projects has improved the capacity to carry discharged water and has helped to solve water logging problem in 10 km2 of the central city area. By the end of 1995, the total length of drainage pipes was 1,658 km, and the area drained totalled 159 km2. Hence the drainage capacity within the city has been greatly improved.
The construction of gas supply projects has improved urban gas use conditions.
During the eighth Five-Year Plan period, there were 200 thousand additional consumers of gas and the urban gas usage rate was 92.8 per cent. The daily gas supply capacity was increased by 260 thousand m3 through the construction and development of coal gas projects.
The gas supply pipe network was extended by 100.4 km.
