III. SHENYANG CITY: CURRENT ENVIRONMENTAL SITUATION

[ III | III-A | III-B | III-C ]

Although Shenyang City has continuously protected and improved the environment during the process of urbanization, the fast growth of urbanization, the rising population and the rapid development of the economy have placed enormous pressure on the environment. However, the strengthening of comprehensive environmental management and the construction of fundamental facilities such as sewage treatment, improved supplies of water, concentrated heat supply and gas, green areas, traffic control systems, communications, and residential areas have improved the level of comprehensive urban services and the capacity for preventing and treating pollution. Thus, the investment environment has been greatly ameliorated. A solid foundation has been established in order to make Shenyang a sustainable development city in the twenty-first century.
