The shift in the development planning paradigm towards greater focus on the environment must be accompanied by capacity-building efforts that will facilitate such a transition. Growing environmental awareness among planning practitioners needs to be properly directed towards concrete and positive actions. That can be accomplished through extensive information, education and communication advocacy, which will help to mainstream environmental considerations in the economic policy decision-making process.
