D. Integration at the local and regional levels (environmental impact assessment)

There are guidelines and manuals in practice for environmental impact assessment (EIA) of flood control projects. These guidelines and manuals have been developed recently. One manual by LGED (1994a) deals with small-scale projects undertaken at the local level and to be executed by LGED. Another manual on environmental impact assessment has been developed under FAP studies (ISPAN, 1995) which deals with medium- and large-scale projects to be implemented by BWDB. The scale for project classification in terms of area coverage is given in Table 7. These guidelines are discussed below.
