Special events and social functions

     The following special events/social functions were held during the 66th Commission session.

Thursday, 13 May 2010 – Cocktail reception

Cocktail reception was hosted by Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, on the evening of 13 May 2010 in honour of the delegates attending the Senior Officials Segment of the sixty-sixth session of the Commission. The function was held at the Grand Ballroom, of the Sheraton Hotel and all participants attended the event.

Friday, 14 May 2010 – SIAP Luncheon

A Luncheon was hosted by the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) for Heads of Delegations in celebration of SIAP-ESCAP 40 years of achievement and future prospects. Several delegates who were Alumni from SIAP spoke of the valuable training they had received and how it had helped in their work at national level. The function was held at the Grand Ballroom, of the Sheraton Hotel.

 
Saturday 16 May 2010 – Dinner meeting with Korean fishing industry

A dinner organized by the Overseas Fisheries Association of the Republic of Korea and presided over by the Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Ms Noeleen Heyzer, enabled key Pacific island countries to discuss balancing the needs of industry and environment in the Pacific. While fishing is a major sector of many Pacific island economies, the Pacific Ocean - home to a vast diversity of marine life – is a global resource that must be protected and maintained. ESCAP, as a forum for building strong ties between Asia-Pacific countries, recognizes that Asian countries such as Korea , which consume high amounts of seafood, are important development partners for Pacific small island developing States.

Monday, 17 May 2010 – Regional Connectivity for Shared prosperity

A Luncheon was hosted by Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, in honour of the special guests and heads of delegations of ESCAP members and associate members attending the sixty-sixth session of the Commission. The luncheon which was held at the Sheraton hotel was particularly focused on sharing ideas on “Regional Connectivity for Shared Prosperity: Moving Forward from ASEAN +6”.

 
Monday, 17 May 2010 – Gala dinner

A Gala Dinner was hosted by H.E. Mr. Yu Myung-hwan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Republic of Korea, in honour of the delegates and servicing staff participating at the sixty-sixth session of the Commission at the Exhibition Hall of Songdo ConvensiA. The evening show cased the traditional Korean musical instruments and guests enjoyed a wonderful performance of traditional and contemporary music.

Signing ceremony of Regional, Integrated, Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) Cooperation Agreement took place at the Songdo ConvensiA

G 20 Seoul summit briefing
A Luncheon was hosted by the Republic of Korea including a briefing on the G20 Seoul Summit in honour of the Heads of Delegations of ESCAP members and associate members attending the sixty-sixth session of the Commission.
