| The
Sixty-First session of the Economic and Social Commission
for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is scheduled to be
held at United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in
Bangkok, Thailand, from 12 to 18 May 2005.
In view of the recent tsunami disaster, a special
High-level Panel on Tsunami Recovery Development will
be held in the morning of Monday, 16 May 2005 from
1015-1215 hours to discuss re-construction and recovery
efforts in the affected regions. |

Special Body on Least Developed and Landlocked Developing Countries
The Special Body on Least Developed and Landlocked Developing Countries discusses and makes recommendations to the Commission on selected issues of importance to the least developed and landlocked developing countries.
During its seventh session, scheduled to be held in Bangkok just before the commission session, on 10 and 11 May 2005, the Special Body will consider (a) trade, debt relief and aid for the achievement of Millennium Development Goals and (b) information, communication and space technology for meeting development challenges. The Special Body will also review the activities of the Commission in the least developed and landlocked developing countries during the biennium 2004-2005. The report of this Special Body is expected to highlight the concerns of the least developed and landlocked developing countries in light of the United Nations Millennium +5 Summit which will be held in New York in September 2005.
