A series of interesting facts emerging from
UN ESCAP's 57th Commission Session Bangkok, April 19--25th
HIV/AIDS Figures Growing
Bangkok, United Nations Information Services (UNIS) -- “Africa has been
the most affected region, with the highest HIV prevalence rates.
In Asia, while HIV prevalence rates are still relatively low, the huge
population of Asia means that even low rates will translate into massive
numbers of infections. In India, where only seven adults in a thousand
are infected, there are already 3.7 million people living with HIV / AIDS,
more than any country in the world, except South Africa. Thailand was the
first Asian country to take comprehensive action to address the HIV / AIDS/
epidemic.”
