Prudence and Public Debt
Bangkok, United Nations Information Services (UNIS) -- “The principal
policy challenge confronting the region as a whole is to maintain the momentum
of growth in 2001 and beyond in the face of potential unfavourable developments
in the external environment. Slower GDP growth would add to the public
debt, and possibly constrain vital social expenditures. Maintaining
the momentum of growth within a framework of macroeconomic prudence requires
action in a number of areas at the national or sub-regional levels.”
