The fifty-sixth session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific was held 1-7 June 2000 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

The theme topic of the fifty-sixth Session is "Development through globalization and partnership in the twenty-first century: an Asia-Pacific perspective for integrating developing countries and economies in transition into the international trading system on a fair and equitable basis".
