The fifty-fifth session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific was held 22-28 April 1999 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

The theme topic of the fifty-fifth Session is "Asia and the Pacific into the 21st century: information technology, globalization, economic security and development". This study will be published as part of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 1999. An on-line version will be available from the ESCAP web site (www.unescap.org)
